It’s Bún bò for bobos hipsters at Le Petit Cambodge, the ‘little brother’ to neighbouring restaurant Le Cambodge.
The no-fuss canteen churns out the classic cold/hot noodle salad in droves, seven days a week from midday until 11pm. On offer is beef, pork, prawns and vegetables, or various mixed combinations served with chopped spring rolls.
Most importantly it is fresh and affordable – between €9 and €13.50 for the signature dish – and arrives just as quickly as it was ordered to bustling communal tables.
The ‘write it yourself’ order system can be somewhat confusing to newcomers, but service is generally friendly despite the rush. Worst case scenario take-away can be ordered in advance by telephone.
Impress fellow hipsters: should the restaurant prove too popular during the lunch rush, on the Rue Bichat side of the restaurant there is a small window from which passers-by can order takeaway.
