Paris’s first dedicated fish and chip shop, thoughtfully located next to the Canal Saint Martin.
A menu of fish, chips, peas and a drink will set you back €17 – not necessarily cheap junk food – but servings are generous and the produce is top notch. One would expect no less with Michael Greenwold of Roseval in charge of the kitchen.
Everything is authentically English. From the beers to the candy to the mushy peas and battered sausage. Chip sandwiches, malt vinegar, ketchup in plastic tomato-shaped squirt bottles, huge attention has been paid to details.
Slick decor and cute uniforms round out the offer. The fish is quite simply delicious, as is the tartare sauce. Between Tuck Shop, Bob’s Juice Bar and soon to open Holybelly, this block is fast becoming mecca for anglo expats.
Impress fellow hipsters: The Sunken Chip is the lovechild of Michael Greenwold (Roseval) and James Whelan (L/Inconnu)
