Cô My Cantine is a barebones Pho/Bún bò Huế/Loc Lac spot with communal tables and write-your-own-order-forms, where Oberkampf meets Ménilmontant.
A considerable bowl of Vietnam’s finest noodle/protein soup will set you back €9, with Nems or Coconut Juice for an additional €3.
I’m yet to find outstanding Pho in Paris but this was easily the best I’ve had. Super fresh ingredients, generous lashings of rare tender beef, not-too-salty broth. I do lament the lack of chopped chillies, vietnamese basil (or mint) and limes, but this seems to be a Paris wide problem.
The Bún bò Huế – also huge – is fresh and delicious. Crunchy crunchy spring rolls and silky sautéed beef, another bargain for €9.
You can’t really go wrong here, dinner is served until 11pm, ingredients are fresh, the kitchen is open. It’s cheap eats with clean floors and good beer.
Impress fellow hipsters: On Saturdays and Sundays Cô My Cantine is open from Midday to 11pm, service nonstop, which can be ordered for delivery on Take Eat Easy.
